Hollywood Star Anne Hathaway Welcome Aging As Part Of Life

In a world where beauty is an important part of success.

Superstar actress Anne Hathaway fearlessly revealed that unlike most stars she is no afraid of aging since that is part of life. Hathaway who will turn 30 in 2012 said she welcome aging with an open heart and jolly soul. ”I find the passing of time very liberating,” Hathaway said.

“I feel more confident every, well not every single day, but most days I feel better than I did the day before, and that’s a good thing,” Hathaway added. The actress made the statement as she promoted her newest film “One Day”, a romantic comedy which opens on August 19.

“For every generation where traditional rules don’t apply, you don’t have to have things figured out by 22 and have four kids by the time you’re 30,” said Hathaway, who’s single but dating and has no children. She said there is no reason to be afraid of aging in Hollywood since you can still last long if you have the talent in acting like veteran actress Meryl Streep, a 62-year-old Oscar winner.

“We have pioneers that show us there’s no reason to be afraid, and I just think fear (of aging) is something that we perpetuate,” Hathaway said. According to reports, “One Day” is based on the best-selling novel of David Nicholls and follows the romantic journey of two best friends over 20 years.

The movie also stars British actor Jim Sturgess. Hathaway became popular around the world when she played Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries (2001).

Over the next three years, Hathaway reprised that role for The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, and starred in family films, appearing as the title character in Ella Enchanted, both in 2004. Hathaway is also an Emmy winning actress for her voice-over performance in “The Simpsons”.

Hathaway had dramatic roles in Havoc and Brokeback Mountain, both in 2005. She starred in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and in Becoming Jane (2007) as Jane Austen. In 2010, she starred in the box office hits Valentine’s Day and Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, as well as Love and Other Drugs. In 2011, she had a voice role in the animated film Rio.

People magazine named her one of its breakthrough stars of 2001, and she first appeared on its list of the world’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2006.

Mariska Hargitay, Fighting Crime On and Off Camera

Mariska Hargitay aka Detective Olivia Benson is a heroin on screen and off! This time Mariska is telling “Amy’s Story” by supporting the documentary, which tells the story of a woman who was killed by her husband after years of domestic abuse.

While speaking out about domestic violence, the 46-year-old actress highlighted Liz Claiborne’s efforts to spread the word about domestic violence, writing, “Liz Claiborne Inc. is…in the process of releasing data from their 2010 College Dating Violence and Abuse Poll in conjunction with their groundbreaking ‘It’s Time to Talk Day’. The survey found that 41 percent of dating freshmen and seniors have experienced violence and abusive dating behaviors in their lifetime, with more than half of those surveyed saying they have difficulty identifying what constitutes dating abuse.”

I’m sure Amy’s story hits home for many people. Domestic Violence not only affects the victims, but its also a very hurtful situation for friends and families of victims to endure. This is a great way to help bring awareness to such an wide spread problem.

“Become the person in your community — perhaps the first, hopefully the first among many — who knows the signs of domestic and intimate partner violence, who knows how to respond to a victim with compassion and wisdom, and who knows how participate in creating a society where perpetrators will not be allowed to abuse with impunity and without consequence,” Mariska wrote.

On August 6th, Mariska also attended a celebration for the Children’s Defense Fund’s Beat the Odds program at Guastavino’s. Mariska is an avid philanthropist, founding her own organization “The Joyful Heart Foundation”, which “works to foster a community that turns toward the issues of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.”

Since becoming the star of NBC’s Law & Order Special Victims Unit a tv drama that focuses on rape, domestic violence and child abuse, these issues have been close to Mariska’s heart and she has been striving to help fight against them in any way she can.

Keke Palmer honored at BET’s “Black Girls Rock” awards.

On Saturday, Oct. 16th, BET presented Beverly Bond’s first annual Black Girls Rock awards, honoring amazing African American Women. This show honored black women from all walks of life including actresses, musicians, soldiers and activists. Keke Palmer presented the “Who Got Next” award for her many accomplishments as a young actress and her positive image. Being a positive role model to young girls is extremely important in a time where there are a lot of images on television and in music depict black women in a negative and degrading light.

Keke spoke about how she values her position as a role model and she likes to show young girls that they dont have to take their clothes off or compromise their integrity to be successful. She expressed to young ladies of the world “the only difference between you and me, is I know I’m special and you havent realized yet that you’re special too”. Keke stressed that believing in yourself, faith in God and a strong family foundation is the way to make your dreams a reality. And even if you dont have a strong family foundation, if you have faith, work hard, and believe in yourself, you can do whatever you want to do.

I commend Keke Palmer for being such a positive role model and such a sweet girl! I had the pleasure of meeting her at this event and she was definitely a class act and the highlight of my night!

I would also like to thank Beverly Bond for coming up with such an awesome mission, to let black girls know that they ROCK….that they are somebody, and can be whatever they want to be! The show stressed that every honoree on the show was once your age, or in your shoes, and they came out on top. What makes you any different?? If they can do it, so can you! THAT IS AWESOME!

Other honorees included Missy Elliott, Raven Symoné, Rev. Dr. Iyanla Vanzant, living legend Ruby Dee and more! The event was hosted by Nia Long, whom the audience screamed and professed their love to the entire night. And if the show doesn’t already sound amazing, there are also a slew of awesome presenters and musical acts including Jill Scott, Keri Hilson, British sensation VV Brown and more surprises! It was definitely a memorable show, and you can experience this inspiring, entertaining event when it airs on BET, November 7th at 8pm/7pm Central.

ABC’s “Modern Family” Honored for Diversity

The Gay, Lesbian and Straight (I think that covers everybody) Education Network honored ABC’s Modern Family over the weekend in Los Angeles for its positive images of diversity.

The cast includes everybody from people of Cuban descent, heavy people, and skinny people, to a gay couple with an Asian baby. I guess the new black neighbor is for next season?

Openly gay actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson plays Mitchell Pritchett, one half of the gay couple in the hilarious sitcom. This award hits very close to home for him. In light on all of the recent suicides committed by gay teens who were being bullied, Ferguson spoke out about his own experience with being a victim of bullying.

“I left school in the eighth grade and went to a different school” he said at the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network’s Respect Awards. “It was hard. It was a horrible, horrible experience.” He explained that he “lived every day in fear and I believe that a lot of it was rooted in homophobia.” He went on to say that being an artistic kid at that time was viewed as being gay, and he hung out with the more “eccentric, granola type kids who got teased too…but you know what? We’re the movers and the shakers of the world now.”

TAKE THAT, BULLIES! What are you guys doing today? Probably hanging out in bars participating in drunken brawls when you should be at home rotating the wheels on your house! (oops, did I say that out loud?).

I think bullying would be a great storyline for Modern Family. It may be a little extra work making such a serious subject, light hearted enough for a comedy series but I’m sure the writers can pull it off. “I don’t know if its too heavy” Ferguson said about bullying being a storyline for the show. “I certainly can see Manny (Rico Rodriguez) being bullied, but not necessarily for being gay but just for being different.” I concur Mr. Ferguson.
