Practice Your Acting Chops by Doing Theatre

Being a successful actor is not just about movies and television. Many successful film and television actors started off in theatre.

If you’re gonna be a successful actor, you must be well-rounded and you’ll soon realize (if you haven’t already) that the theatre is a great place to truly hone in on your acting skills. But do you even go to the theatre? Have you ever experienced the magic of Broadway in New York? Well if you haven’t, you’ll love it, so your first assignment is to get some Broadway Theatre Tickets. Experience it: the dramas, the musicals–you’ll love it.

One difference between theatre and movies and TV is that with theatre you have no room for mistakes. No re-takes (like in movies and TV) when you flub your lines and if you do slip up on your lines, you’ve got to “play it off.” You’re an actor, right? In theater you must pretend that you never “missed a beat” when it comes to forgetting or flubbing your lines.

But the great thing about theatre is that you have much more time to study and really get to know your character. You don’t have much time to really “enjoy” the character, so-to-speak, when it comes to movies and television. Of course, acting in the movies and TV is fun, but nothing beats playing a character that you enjoy playing night after night to thunderous applause and standing ovations.

It’s for this reason that you see so many movie stars going back to the theater to perform. They don’t necessarily do it for the money. They do it for the thrill of it, they do it because they love it.

But it all starts with those Broadway Tickets. Get out there and see for yourself.
