There are No Small Roles

No-Small-Roles-Actor-Crawls

If you’re a serious actor, you’ll know that there are no small roles.  But if you’re just infatuated with being famous or a movie star, you probably only want to audition for the BIG roles.

Think about it; that makes no sense.  Are you in it for the art and craft or just for the fame?

First of all, you have to crawl before you can walk.  Research any famous actor and you’ll find that they started off small.  Whether it was starting off in commercials or local theater, whatever it was, they didn’t become a star overnight.

No, it took a lot of hard work and dedication.  It took tenacity, perseverance and patience.

And for you, yes, you’ll have to pay your dues too.  That’s just how it works.

In a sense, “working” your acting career is no different from working your way up the corporate ladder; except with acting, there’s a slight chance you’ll get to the top a little quicker and the payoff will most likely be bigger.

But hang in there…you’ll see that the smaller roles will open up bigger opportunities for you.  You’ll connect with a great casting director who may keep you in mind for a larger role on the next project or you’ll work with a fellow actor who may help you later on, etc.

It’s during those “small roles” where you’ll be networking and connecting with people–’who-you-know business,’ remember?

No small roles.
