One important rule of thumb that you need to know if you don’t know already: never pay an agent or manager up front for their services. Realize that there are many scams out there and many people want to swindle you out of your money. There are a ton of so-called agents and managers who promise to represent you if you give them a fee. Well, I don’t care what the fee is, if they’re charging an “upfront” fee for their services, they’re not legit!
I know this may burst your bubble a bit and I know it seems like the agent/manager recognized that you’re very talented but, sorry. They’re just not legitimate if they charge you an upfront fee. Remember this: real agents or managers charge a commission for their services and this is always AFTER you book a job. Not one dime goes to them up front, okay? Remember that. I don’t care what they say to try and convince you any differently. Again, if they’re charging you an upfront fee, they’re not legit. Agents get 10% commission off the jobs you book as and actor. A manager’s commission is anywhere from 15-25%.
