Do you get nervous on an audition? It’s normal. Especially if you’re in the running for something major like a TV series or a big film. Don’t sweat it. The key to going on a successful audition is to never let them see you sweat. Whose “them”? Casting directors. Producers. The Director. Actors whom you’re up against. You’re gonna have to maintain you’re coolness if you are to get the part. As a matter of fact, as soon as you set foot in the place where you’re gonna audition; you need to be as calm, cool, and collected as possible.
You’re an actor remember? And your acting skills are gonna have to kick in BEFORE the audtion. The good thing is most people will never know you’re nervous. People can’t feel what you feel so remember that. If you’ve got “the butterflies” people won’t know it. Only your actions will reveal what’s going on inside you. Your goal should be to control your actions throughout the entire audition. This is an “acting technique” in itself.
So, even though you may be nervous; do things that are just the opposite of “nervous”. Cross your legs. Smile. Pay no attention to other actors on the audtion. Focus on your lines and what you need to do to pull off the audition. Don’t figdet, don’t squirm, don’t move around a lot. No time to keep looking at your compact or combing your hair while on the audtion. This is unprofessional and it shows that you’re insecure and unprepared. You can always tell the actors with bad nerves because they’re always using the bathroom. Use the bathroom once and stay focused. By all means, never let’em see you sweat! We’re only scratching the surface on the audtion process so sit tight and enjoy the other articles. Break a leg!
