Disney Acting: How to be an Actor on The Disney Channel

Disney acting? Want an agent? You probably watch The Disney Channel all the time and you’re like, “Oh my God, I sooooo want to be on that show! I want to do that! I can do that!!” Well, we’re gonna give you some realistic tips on how you can get on a network like The Disney Channel.

If you’re young, between the ages of 8-19 you’re in a great position to becoming an actor on The Disney Channel. Tween, Teens and young adults are extremely popular in the film and television business so this is a great time for you. First off, where do you live? Are you even near the Disney Channel? It may sound fun and exciting to be on The Disney Channel and all that, but if you’re not even near the studios, how will you be able to get a shot of being on a Disney show?  Don’t worry, we know you’re probably young and have no control over where you’re living right now but you’re first task is to let your parents know what you’d like to do.  Unless your parents are willing to move to Los Angeles (where Disney produces most of their shows) there’s not too much you can do right now.

But check this out.  Are there any contests on The Disney Channel where you can submit yourself on video?  How about sending in video or photos of yourself.  Enter as many contests as you can.  Maybe you’re doing this already and are desperate! Okay, well, you got to get to L.A. and then you’ll need to get an agent.  That’s right, all kids that are on The Disney Channel have talent agents who submit them for those shows like the ones on The Disney Channel.

Agents are important.  They act on your behalf to help you get a role on a movie, TV show or commercial, or whatever. If you can’t get to Hollywood right now, start off locally.  See if your parents will let you get involved in local school plays.  Perform in as many plays as you can.  You’re gonna need some “credits” on your resume to secure an agent later on, so the more plays and things you’ve acted in, the better.  After you get some credit under your belt, try to get some headshots (photos) and get a local agent.  If there are no agents where you live, you’ll have to re-locate to the closest major city near you to find one.  You have to understand that though getting on The Disney Channel sounds fun–it’s still a business.  To you it’s fun, but to grown-ups like agents and producers of TV shows–it’s a business, so you have to go about things the right way. Develop a track record.  Do some local commercials.  Once you get your feet wet a little, you’ll be ready for Disney and getting a Hollywood agent.  Why?  Because you’ll have many things on your resume that shows you’re a professional.  Once you finally secure an agent in Hollywood or even New York, don’t limit yourself to only being on The Disney Channel.

When you get an agent, you’ll be going out on many other auditions besides for The Disney Channel.  However, when your agent calls you and tells you that you have an audition for a Disney Channel show–start screaming, start shouting!  That will be your chance to be on a Disney Channel show!  You better do good too!  You can do it.  We believe in you.
